COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS

Village Center/Roosevelt Middle School.

SACDC worked with a collaborative of nonprofit organizations, Roosevelt Middle School staff, service providers, youth and the San Antonio community to develop a Village Center based upon the City of New York's "Beacon Schools", which are school based community centers open after school, evenings and weekends.
The Roosvelt Village Center offers children,  youth and their parents a wide range of social, recreational, educational, and vocational services.   The Village Center also serves as a site for community meetings and social activities, and as an organizing center for neighborhood safety and community revitalization.

The center is managed by East Bay Asian Youth Center (EBAYC), working together with school boards, school staff,  youth, families and city service providers and subcontractors. The village will create a central place in its neighborhood for linking  youth to adults, actively involving both in community governance issues. The village Center opened Fall 1999.

Peoples Federal Credit Union

SACDC worked with Alameda Social Service Agency, East Bay Community Law Center, African-American Economic Justice Project of the American Friends Service Committee, Valley Federal Credit Union, Berkeley Oakland Support Services, Community Resources for Independent Living, Women's Economic Agenda Project, Eden Housing Management, East Bay Habitat for Humanity, City of Oakland Community Economic Development Agency, and community advocates to create  alternative banking services for low to moderate income persons in Alameda County, starting with the Enhanced Enterprise Zones in Oakland. The first branch opened in March 2001 in West Oakland, to be followed by a branch in San Antonio.
